Our story begins in 1986 when three guys in high school, who needed a job, began working for the same window covering company. They worked in every aspect of the business including repairs, installations, sales, measuring, fabrication, and finishing. They became close friends continuing on into college while maintaining their jobs in the afternoons. Eager to earn more money, they began working in the evening as installers for various interior designers in the area. The young men worked with various products from every manufacturer, learning the positive and negative components to each type of window treatment.

After college, the men continued to work together selling and installing for various designers and companies throughout Southeastern North Carolina. They saw a need in the window treatment market for an affordable shutter without compromising it's integrity. A business plan was drawn up and thus began the search for an affordable location. After weeks of searching, they were contacted by economic development in Duplin County who extended a hand in finding a location suitable for our needs. Duplin county had lost a large textile plant during the same time, leaving many in the area without work. This certainly gave the Shutter Production workers who were eager to learn the shutter manufacturing process.

Through the years, The Shutter Production has kept almost all their original hires as well as expanded with new workers, a new facility, and state of the art machinery. It is wonderful to see a business grow, but also the dedicated employees and their families grow and prosper from what began as a simple idea on paper. The Shutter Production is proud to use lumber grown and harvested in the United States and proud to be one of North Carolina's high quality manufacturers during a time when it seems more common to send the work to other countries.
